Karen Hanlon, CPA
President, HM Health Solutions
Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer, Highmark Health
Karen is president of HM Health Solutions and has a long history with parent company Highmark Health, where she also serves as executive vice president, chief operating officer, and chief financial officer. She oversees the operations of not only HM Health Solutions but also Gateway Health, the Highmark Health-Penn State Health partnership, and Highmark Health Analytics and Informatics. In addition, she sits on the board of several Highmark Health subsidiaries and affiliates.
As CFO, Karen is responsible for all of the corporation’s financial and administrative activities, including financial accounting and reporting, treasury, tax planning and compliance, financial planning and analysis, actuarial services, enterprise risk management, and corporate real estate and administrative services. In 2018, she was named a CFO of the Year award winner by the Pittsburgh Business Times.
A certified public accountant with more than 20 years of finance experience, Karen began her career in public accounting at KPMG Peat Marwick prior to joining Highmark in 1997, where she has held several positions within the finance division.
Karen holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Grove City College.
Chief Information Officer
Gary leads his team to collaborate and identify innovative technology solutions at HM Health Solutions. His broad experience in the IT field covers such areas as global infrastructure and applications activities, large-scale data center operations, applications systems development, acquisition integration, and business redesign.
Gary arrived at HM Health Solutions in 2013 to assume the role of senior vice president, IT Infrastructure and Operations. Before that, he was at Bayer MaterialScience. During his career he has enjoyed opportunities to sponsor career development activities and establish programs that provide people with disabilities work experience and on-the-job training.
Gary holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, a master's degree in management of information systems, and a master's degree in business administration, all from the University of Pittsburgh.
Senior Vice President, Consulting Services
Pete leads Consulting Services at HM Health Services, focusing on strategic planning, solution development, portfolio management, and deployment of new client business capabilities. He also has responsibility for migrating customers to the Enterprise Health Solution Platform.
With more than 30 years of business and technology experience, Pete has held management positions in Highmark's health plan operations and finance areas. Prior to joining Highmark, Pete was a leader in IBM's business consulting services and strategic outsourcing group in the U.S. and Canada, where he executed large-scale implementations and contract management programs.
Pete is a graduate of Robert Morris University, with a bachelor's degree in information science.
Chief Financial Officer
Mike is responsible for the finance, strategy, pricing, and planning functions of HM Health Solutions. For the previous 16 years, he worked for HM Insurance Group as well as in Highmark Inc. for corporate finance and health markets. Most recently, he served as the leader of the financial and operations organization for commercial health markets.
Earlier, Mike spent four years building the Kowalski Agency (an agency of Allstate) from the ground up, as partner and owner. He also spent six years with the elite audit, tax, and advisory firm of KPMG LLP. He holds a Pennsylvania Accident and Health Producer license and is a certified public accountant (inactive).
Mike has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Clarion University.
Chief Operations Officer
Mick has end-to-end oversight of the HM Health Solutions’ core offering, the Enterprise Health Solution Platform. As COO, Mick’s primary goal is the development and implementation of a total strategic plan for Platform growth.
Prior to joining HM Health Solutions, Mick was a senior vice president and chief administrative officer at NASCO. He led the rapidly growing product, service, and business consulting division that provided added value for Blues Plan stakeholders. Before NASCO, Mick worked for Computer Methods Corporation for 21 years.
Mick is a graduate of Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Senior Vice President, Customer Operations
Titina focuses on the design, orchestration, and performance of Customer Operations at HM Health Solutions and has over 27 years of experience as a technology executive, strategically fueling growth and transforming businesses.
In her previous role as vice president, Global Operations, and chief of staff at Oracle Marketing Cloud, she held responsibility for operationally transforming sales and customer success experiences globally, and led all aspects of worldwide organization planning and initiatives. Her other roles at Oracle included vice president, Worldwide Alliances and Channels Global Operations; vice president, People and Organizational Effectiveness; vice president, Oracle University Global Operations; and senior practice director, Oracle Consulting. Earlier, she held the position of senior manager at Pricewaterhouse.
A passionate advocate for mentorship, Titina founded the Oracle Women's Leadership program in 2005, introducing an innovative approach for cultivating and retaining female talent.
Titina holds a bachelor's degree in management science and a master's in business administration, both earned at Case Western Reserve University.
Senior Vice President and Head of Product and Technology
Balajee is responsible for the full life-cycle ownership for the strategy and development of the organization's technology solutions and the Enterprise Health Solution Platform. He has a deep knowledge of business and technology strategy, and has been a successful change agent throughout his career.
Prior to joining HM Health Solutions, Balajee spent 20 years in entrepreneurial and high-growth settings in Europe and the U.S. He was the head of Cognizant's Banking and Financial Services business in Europe, managing a team of over 10,000 people, and responsible for client success and for overseeing the firm's business development and delivery. He was instrumental in helping establish the firm's health care business in the U.S. and build it to scale. He also led public sector health care application services at IBM.
Balajee holds an undergraduate degree in engineering and a master's in business administration in finance and management information systems.
